An Almost New Team for Ligature Journal Issue Four
THE WAY LIGATURE JOURNAL IS DESIGNED HAS BEEN DISRUPTED
The theme of Ligature Journal Issue Four is Disruption. Which for us is a most appropriate theme – not only for the content, but also for the way the journal will be produced. As you can see from the team photo, this is a much smaller group than has worked on previous issues.
This is perhaps the most visible indication of a major shift that has happened in the running of the journal. We have moved from being part of the Billy Blue College of Design teaching program to a full internship structure. We will still use the process to teach publication and editorial design. However, we now use an atelier style rather than using the classroom model. That means the team now work in our studio for one full day a week – so we have added practical studio experience to what they learn. It is all much more intense, but we get a lot done in that day!
It is a new experience for us at Tiliqua Press too, as publishers of Ligature Journal, and to a certain extent we are playing this by ear. But hey! that’s the life of the designer, bringing experience to bear on the new and unfamiliar. We are very lucky to have a team with a includes good deal of Ligature history in it to help us along the way, mixed in with a few new faces for extra freshness.
So, to the team. For our newbies, we have Akshati (front row, right) and Sam (back row, far left). Akshati has a passion for research, and Sam brings some European design experience having spent some time studying in Berlin. The members of the team who have come back for some more Ligature Journal experience are; Eric (find row, left) from issue two, Natasha (back row, centre right) from issue one and Emma (back row, centre left) from issue three. The final member of the team is Rosie, who has been with us from issue zero and has worked on all the issues to date – now that is commitment!
We have all been working on issue four for several weeks now. We are very excited with how things are turning out. Stay tuned, good things are coming!
